Katie and Andrew’s Wedding at Old Down Manor

It was a real joy to be chosen to photograph Katie and Andrew’s brilliant wedding at Old Down Manor in Tocklington. It’s a venue I’ve photographed a number of times over the last 4 years but this is the first wedding I’ve shot there and it’s a fantastic venue. The weather was forecast as sunny all day and intermittent in the afternoon, while this was true of the morning, the majority of the day was very clear…in fact some of us got sunburn. There was a lot of joy and a fun air that everyone brought to their wedding day. The day was full of laughter and tears, a very emotional day and one of the real highlights of our wedding season so far.

Katie was getting ready in one of the Tocklington suite, and there was a real sense of calm and fun. The weather was very clear and the views from the windows were so inspiring.  Their suite was just lovely too! While Sanchia from Finlay makeup took care of everyone’s makeup and made sure everything was running to plan. She did great job with everyone’s makeup, very professional and really know her stuff. Everyone looked gorgeous. Once all of Katie’s Bridesmaids were in their matching blue dresses, it was soon time for them to help Katie into her stunning dress. Mary, Hannah, Gemma and Ruby looked amazing in their dresses. Gemma’s was a delight all morning and looked very pretty. Katie slipped into her dress. She looked amazing! It was then time for her bridesmaids to leave via the amazing staircase, down to the ceremony. After a brief time for some photos of Katie and Martin, it was time for us to make our way down to where her ceremony was to be held. Leanne covered Andy’s morning and getting ready, which involved a fry up (brilliant) and a beer at the Old Down Manor. Leanne had plenty of time to shoot some group shots of the lads in the grounds.

Their civil ceremony was very moving, the room was beautifully dressed and looked amazing. Andy looked slightly nervous as he waited patiently, but the look on his face when he saw Katie coming down the aisle was priceless. The Bristol Registrar ran a smooth and reassuring ceremony, and one funny moment where Andy was saying his Vowels a bit to eagerly…”Do you take…” “Yes I Do!” made every one laugh…and that light hearted touch flowed through their whole day.  They exchanged rings and were soon walking down the aisle as Mr and Mrs. Their confetti photo really worked well, although we needed to re-shoot the group shot indoors (it was better), their formals went very well and perfectly to time. Jamie, Tom, Jim and Nolan were great sports and played for the camera…thanks guys, you were a lot of fun! We handed over the crowd to the venue concierge bang on time for their receiving line and wedding breakfast. The service at Old Down Manor is excellent and very friendly. Their speeches went well and were very entertaining. Martin was first up and opened with some great lines. Well timed and passed over to Andy who made a great job of welcoming everyone. But it was Jamie who stole the show with his very funny Best Man’s speech. He was very funny and he put Andy in a few uncomfortable spots during his address but all in good fun. It was then time for the cutting of their cake and we then broke for coffee. I took Katie and Andy for some private portraits in the grounds, these went well and we watched the sun go down. It’s a beautiful location with great views and it was worthwhile making use of the best light of the day. We let them go and socialise for a bit and returned to the hall ready for their game and first dance. The light was very low, so I set up a pair of flashes to add a little sparkle to their dancing photographs. These turned out really well and added a fitting end to a fantastic day of wedding photography.
