Anna and Alex’s Wedding at Hollybank

We had a great time photographing Anna and Alex’s wedding day, we had an early start because of the drive from Swindon to Emsworth. We also wanted to get to Hollybank nice and early so that we could do a quick reccie. We met up with Alex, it was great to see him again and said Hi to Jeremy and Hanne.  The marquee was set up beautifully, all of the tables were decorated and the place settings were ready for their guests. Alex was setting up some games for people to play later. I left Leanne with Alex to cover his early preparations.

I sauntered over to Angela and John’s house on Hayling island where Anna and her bridesmaids were getting ready.  There was a really lively and bubbly atmosphere with lots of hair rollers and makeup happening all around. It was a hive of activity and a lot of fun….it’s a hard life being a photographer! Anna’s dress was an asymmetrical number, that hung beautifully on the hanger, but even better on Anna. She looked stunning! Every where around Angela and John’s house are great examples of Anna’s work. She runs Mural Design and her work is exceptional. Before long the cars arrived and it was time for Elizabeth, Lucy, Eleanor and Anya to depart. The Bridal car looked amazing and had the softest seats I have ever seen in a car. It was a Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire from 1958 with a classic brittish straight six 4l engine, which was in a beautifully restored condition. It was time to go to the church and the weather was treating us well.

Parking outside the church as a tough moment for me, my car is a bit big and the spaces were mostly taken up. Thankfully Leanne was on the ball and got the shots that i couldn’t get…running a two person team is essential in my opinion. Leanne picked up the photographs of the Bridesmaids and Anna arriving.  The Vicar at St Johns Church is a really cheeky guy, very funny and quite a charector. I think every one warmed to him very quickly! Clive runs a very progressive and modern church, many of the pews have gone and there’s a bright and fresh atmosphere to his parish. The worship band were excellent and a pleasure to hear. Clive ran a very smooth and relaxing service and his sermon was very witty and poignant, reflecting upon one of my most personal scriptual passages. During the service the rain hit hard…not that anyone noticed!

I departed with Anna and Alex in the Armstrong Siddeley to the Quay side, while their guests departed to Hollybank for Canapes, drinkies and lawn games. I had a great opportunity to photograph some Portraits of Anna and Alex for a short while and we had a lot of fun by the Quay. Then a gentle drive to Hollybank for the afternoon mingle and later reception. The day was a lot of fun, and the mood was light and jovial despite the occasional passing downpour.  We had some fun with their formal shots and the lawn games came into play too. It was great to see so many Bluebells too. Their reception was catered for by Linda’s Pantry who looked after everyone and put on some excellent food. Both Anna and Alex gave excellent and light speaches…but when John got up with his 7 A4 pages, I was a little worried! His speach rattled off with aplom and poise, witty and full of great moments and very entertaining. Soon it was Jeremy to take the mic and his speach was very funny and moving, with very much his own style of public speaking. I felt like I know the whole bridal party very well after the speaches….and I just have to see Alex in his blue cycling shorts!  The band rocked, rolled and crooned us with excellence, a really tight band and their singer has a great voice…although Johnathan’s rendition of Mustang Sally gave them a run for their money! Soon our day was over, it was time to put our cameras down and chat. It was great to see Mary and Phil (we photographed their wedding in the summer of last year) and we had some great conversations with so many guests, it’s so nice to be accepted in such a warm and friendly way, a great bunch of people. Our day was filled with a lot of laughs and a lot of fun and I’m sure you’ll see that is reflected in the photos that we took.
